An Author Workshop was organized by SwÄdhyÄya – The Central Library in collaboration with BMJ on 10 July 2026 at the DRH Auditorium, SDM Hospital, from 2.30 p.m. to 5.30 p.m.
The program commenced with opening remarks and a welcome address by Dr. Ravichandra, Chief Librarian, SwÄdhyÄya – The Central Library. Ā The workshop was conducted by Dr. N. Devadasan, Founder of the Institute of Public Health, Bengaluru, and Advisor to the Editorial Board of BMJ Global Health.
The workshop was designed to strengthen the scientific writing and scholarly publishing skills of faculty members, researchers, and postgraduate students. The sessions focussed on the principles of preparing clear, accurate, and well-structured manuscripts using the IMRaD (Introduction, Methods, Results, and Discussion) format. Participants learned effective approaches to developing each section of a manuscript, improving scientific writing style, grammar, and clarity, and complying with internationally accepted reporting guidelines.
A major highlight of the workshop was guidance on selecting the most appropriate journal for publication by evaluating factors such as the journal’s scope, readership, indexing status, impact, and author guidelines. Dr. Devadasan also discussed the common reasons for manuscript rejection and shared practical strategies to improve the likelihood of successful publication.
