Library Services

In-House Reading and Reference

An in-house reading service is available to the students and staff of SDM College of Medical Sciences and Hospital. Dedicated reading halls are provided separately for undergraduates, postgraduates and faculty members.

Home Lending

The teaching faculty members, research scholars and postgraduate students are offered home lending service for a duration of 15 days. To know more on the borrowing privileges

OPAC (Online Catalogue)

Easylib library management software is used for bibliographic control and the circulation of books, journals, other print materials and CDs and DVDs added to the library’s collection. Bibliographic details of these resources can be searched online through OPAC module. Users can search a book by the author/editor, title, keyword, subject, department, publisher etc. OPAC also helps to find the location of a particular book, circulation status, the due date, and of the borrower details. Search for the subscribed journals, details of journal issues received and not received, details of non-print materials acquired by the library, and list of latest addition to the library’s collection are possible through the OPAC. Library Orientation and User Education

Regular orientation sessions are conducted for the new batch of students and newly joined staff. The purpose of such orientation is to create awareness about the information resources available, and facilities and services offered. The orientation sessions help create awareness, enhancing the utilization of the library’s resources and services.

Self-Search Training & Mediated Search

Library holds regular self-search training sessions for individuals and groups aimed at helping postgraduate students, research scholars, and the faculty members effectively search for literature. Additionally, the Library also offers a mediated search service upon request, helping users gather literature on a specific topic.

Following practices are implemented by the library to create awareness among the users about the resources available:

Document Delivery

The Central Library is a member of DELNET. The articles required by the users which are not available in Library’s collection are arranged from DELNET.  The articles which are not available with DELNET are sourced from other medical college libraries in the region. Book Recommendation Service

The library actively welcomes book recommendations from faculty and students of SDMMCH. A recommendation register is maintained at the circulation counter, providing a convenient way to recommend books for addition to the library.

Checking Similarity

The library provides similarity checking service to postgraduate students, research scholars, and faculty members using Turnitin software. Users who do not have Turnitin individual accounts can send the files to be checked in DOC format to the library’s email address [email protected].

Library also offers training on how to minimize similarity in scholarly publications as well as guidance on how to view similarity reports and reduce similarity percentage whenever the overall percentage is high.

Computer and Internet

The Information Centre of the Central Library is equipped with 37 dedicated computers, accessories, and 1.2 Gbps broadband Internet connection. This facility helps users in preparing academic materials and access electronic resources. To know about computer and internet browsing policy

Wi-Fi & Off-Campus Access

Digital resources can be accessed across the Campus via LAN. Subscribed resources can also be accessed through the Wi-Fi facility available in the library premises, hospital and hostels. Off-campus access is provided through Knimbus remote authentication platform which allows users to access subscribed databases, individual journals, e-books, digital repository, and question papers. Bone Library

The Central Library maintains a Bone library for the convenience of the undergraduate students. The bones can be used within the library. A list of the available bones is maintained at the Circulation Counter.

Printing, Photocopying & Document Scanning

The library provides printing and photocopying facilities for the benefit of the users. These services are available from 10.00 a.m. to 10.00 p.m. on working days and from 10.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. on holidays. Photocopying service is strictly regulated by the copyright laws, allowing the photocopying of only one chapter from a book or a few articles from a journal issue. Document scanning facility is also available for users.
