Department of nephrology is one of the few super specialty departments started early at SDM hospital in September 2012 a. Initially
started with 02 dialysis machines in 2004. It is now one of the biggest dialysis unit in North Karnataka with 34 dialysis machines and doing around 2000 dialysis sessions per month. Providing special forms of dialysis to common man at affordable prices. We also have the state of art Baxter Prismaflex CRRT machines for critically ill ICU patients for CVVHDF. Recently our Chancellor Poojya Shri Dr. D Veerendra Heggadeji inaugurated the state of the art Ultrapure R.O plant which is the second in the state. Providing standard care to all types of kidney diseases. Recently we also achieved a very important milestone of 60 renal transplants of which 50% are cadaver transplants at affordable cost. The transplant programme is a boon for all the sections of the society in North Karnataka. It is also one of the first departments to get super specialty course with 03 D.M. nephrology seats per year.

Chronic Acute Peritoneal Dialysis (CAPD) , Chronic cyclic Peritoneal Dialysis (CCPD), and Acute PD.
- Renal Transplant Facility - We have started doing renal transplantation from May 2019 and till now we have done Total 60 renal transplantations out of which are 27 are cadaver transplants. We have total 186 registered patients for cadaver renal transplant till now and few more are under process for registration.

urinary tract infections, Acid base and electrolyte disorders and hypertension.
High Dependency Unit:
Chronic Kidney Diseases, Acute Kidney Injury, Glomerulonephritis, Diabetic Nephropathy. Kidney stone diseases, urinary tract infections,
Acid base and electrolyte disorders.
Special Services
ABPM, CCPD, HD for HIV, HBsAg and HCV patients, Plasmapheresis, Hemoperfusion, Hemodiafilteration, Cadaver renal
transplantation and CRRT.
Diagnostic Services:
C3, C4, anti CFH antibody, ANCA, Ant GBM, Tissue crossmatch for kidney transplantation(CDC, flow cytometry and DSA), HLA typing, HCV PCR,
IgG CMV, BKV and CMV viral load, and Electron microscopy of kidney tissue.
Emergency:
Acute Kidney Injury, Chronic Kidney Diseases, urinary tract infections, Acid base and electrolyte disorders.
Intensive Care Unit:
Acute Kidney Injury, Chronic Kidney Diseases, urinary tract infections, Acid base and electrolyte disorders.
Renal Transplant ICU:
Live and Diseased kidney transplant recipients.
