The Department of Pediatrics, SDM Medical College Celebrated Breast Feeding Week on 1^st August, 2023. Dr. Niranjan Kumar, Vice Chancellor, SDM University, Smt. Padmalatha Niranjan Kumar, Executive Director and Dr. Pallavi Deshpande, President-Rotary Club Seven Hills, Dharwad inaugurated the Breast Feeding Week by lighting the lamp.

The “Amruta” – Human Milk Bank which is joint project of SDM Hospital and Rotary Club Seven Hills Dharwad which is been completed successful one year. The Vice Chancellor and other Dignitaries celebrated this occasion by cake cutting.

Vice Chancellor, Dr. Niranjan Kumar told on his inaugural speech that:

• The success of the Amruta Milk Bank is to be dedicated to Poojya Shri D. Veerendra Heggade who inaugurated the Milk Bank a year back on 29^th June, 2022.
• SDM Hospital is always grateful to Rotary Club – Seven Hills for their initiation in starting of the Milk Bank
• With the success of Human Milk Bank he told, we would like to start a Skin Bank in association with Rotary Club.
• He said Milk symbolizes love and bondage with the mother and child
• He appreciated the Mothers for their donation of Milk which is an Amruta for many babies. 
• Human Milk Bank is boon for the new born and pre-term babies.
• With one year’s time 439 babies have benefited from the Amruta Milk Bank

Dr. Rathnamala Desai enlighten about the importance of Human Milk Bank and Mothers Milk. She also told that, today’s students must educate all mothers the importance of the Breast Feeding.

Dr. Pallavi Deshpande, COO of Deshpande Hospital and President of Rotary Club has acknowledged the support of SDM Management for the starting of the Milk Bank in SDM Hospital. She also ensured Rotary will try to help many more projects of this kind through the Rotary Foundation.

Shri V Jeevandhar Kumar, Pro Vice Chancellor (Admin.), Dr. Kiran Hegde, Medical Superintendent, Dr. Asha Neravi, Professor & HOD of OBGy Dept., Heads of the Institutions, University Officials, Heads of the Departments, Students and Rotary Club Members were present during the function.

Dr. Vijay Kulkarni, Prof. & HOD of Pediatrics Department briefed about the usefulness of the Amruta Milk Bank to many deserving NICU babies and he also welcomed the Guests. Ms. Bhagyashri invoke the blessings of the almighty god. Dr. Soumya and Dr. Anita gave the statistics and evolution of the Amruta Milk Bank. Dr. Neha compeered the Program and proposed the Vote of Thanks.
