CIMR
April 30, 2026 2026-04-30 5:04CIMR
CIMR has been established in the SDM College of Medical Sciences and Hospital. This center focuses on studying the integration of conventional medical treatments with complementary therapies, such as Ayurveda, Yoga, Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, and Homeopathy (AYUSH) including traditional medicine, fasting, diet and nutrition interventions. This research explores various aspects, including the physiological mechanisms of action (mechanistic studies), clinical effectiveness, safety profiles, patient preferences and experiences, and healthcare delivery models. By investigating these factors, integrated medicine research seeks to provide evidence-based guidance for healthcare providers, policymakers, and patients, ultimately contributing to the evolution of a more comprehensive and personalized approach to healthcare.
CIMR houses state-of-the-art facilities, including Vascular Health Research Lab (VHR Lab), Clinical trial cell, Yoga–Cardiac Rehabilitation Center, and a Yoga Therapy Clinic. CIMR has successfully secured approximately INR 150 lakhs in research funding from national and international agencies, including the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), Ministry of AYUSH, Vision Group on Science and Technology (VGST), and Imperial College London. Currently, eight research fellows, including five full-time PhD scholars, are engaged in research activities at CIMR under the leadership of Prof. Satish G. Patil.
CIMR is actively investigating the impact of yoga-based cardiac rehabilitation and yoga-based lifestyle interventions on vascular endothelial function, arterial stiffness, gene expression, gut microbiome dynamics, and the gut–heart–mind and gut–metabolic axes, with a focus on the prevention of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. These studies aim to elucidate both the clinical efficacy and underlying molecular mechanisms of yoga interventions in patients with heart failure and cardiometabolic risk.
CIMR maintains strong multidisciplinary collaborations with premier institutions, including the Indian Institute of Technology Madras, RV Institute of Technology Bengaluru, the Centre for Chronic Disease Control (Delhi), the Public Health Foundation of India (Delhi), and the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India.
