Modes of Anaesthesia given: 

  1. General Anaesthesia
  2. Regional Anaesthesia: Spinal and Epidural Anaesthesia, Peripheral Nerve Blocks using ultrasound, Caudal Block
  3. Sedation for various procedures 
  4. Monitored Anaesthesia Care (MAC) 
  5. NORA (Non-Operating Room Anaesthesia)

Anaesthesia is given to elective surgeries and emergency surgeries from various surgical specialties in Main OT complex, Super specialty OT complex in SDMCMS&H and OT complex in the Craniofacial unit, SDM Dental college. 

  • General Surgery: Major Abdominal Surgeries like Whipple's Surgery, Abdomino-peroneal Resection of Rectal Carcinoma, Laparoscopic Surgeries, Onco- surgeries like Breast Cancer, Hernia Surgeries, Surgery for Haemorrhoids, Surgery for Varicose Veins, Thoracic Surgeries (Video Assisted Thoracic Surgery VATS), Thyroid Surgery, Parathyroid Gland Surgery, Emergency Surgeries like Appendicectomy, Exploratory Laparotomy, Debridement.
  • Obstetrics and Gynaecology: Caesarean sections elective and emergencies, Complicated high risk obstetric surgeries, Laparoscopic Hysterectomy, Myomectomy, Diagnostic & Therapeutic procedures for Infertility, Gynaecologic Onco- surgeries. 
  • Orthopaedics: Orthopedic Trauma Surgeries, Hip & Knee Replacement Surgeries, Arthroscopic Surgeries, Pediatric Orthopedic Surgeries. 
  • ENT: Tonsillectomy, Adenoidectomy, Septorhinoplasty, Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgeries, Tympanoplasty, Mastoid Surgeries, Microlaryngeal Surgeries for Laryngeal Pathologies, Foreign Body removal from Nose & Throat, Tracheostomies, Removal for Nasal Angiofibromas, Trans-Nasal Endoscopic Skull base surgeries.
  • Paediatric Surgery: Neonatal Abdominal and Thoracic Surgeries, Herniotomies, Pyeloplasties, Circumcision, Laparoscopic Surgeries, Endoscopic / Bronchoscopic Foreign Body Removal, Major Abdominal Surgeries.
  • Plastic Surgery: Split Skin Grafting & Flap Creations, Cosmetic Surgeries like Mastectomy for Gynaecomastia, Cleft Lip and Palate Correction Surgeries, Burns Contracture Release, Debridement for Infected Trauma Cases, AV Fistula Creations.
  • Neurosurgery: Head Injuries, Intracranial Tumours, Spine Surgeries, Intracranial Aneurysmal Clipping Surgeries, Intracerebral Shunt Surgeries.
  • Urologic Surgery: Cystoscopies, Surgery for Renal and Ureteric Stones, Laparoscopic Nephrectomy and Adrenalectomy. 
  • Renal Transplant Surgery. 
  • Oro-maxillofacial Surgeries: Oncologic Surgeries, Dental Surgeries, Trauma Cases with difficult Airway. 
Timings & Holidays
  1. Elective OTs : Monday to Saturday : 8.30 am onwards
  2. Emergency OTs : Round the clock
  3. Pre-anaesthetic evaluation Clinic (PAE) : Monday to Saturday : 8.30 am to 5 pm
  4. MECT: Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays : 8:30 am onwards
  5. MRI and CT sedation : Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays : 8.30 am onwards    
Postoperative pain control
  • Acute pain services
  • Labour analgesia
  • Epidural analgesia
  • Intravenous analgesic administration
  • Ultrasound guided nerve blocks
  • Patient controlled analgesia (PCA) using PCA pumps
  • Continuous femoral nerve blocks with catheter insertion for TKR surgeries
Procedures
  1. Central Venous Catheter insertions in adult and paediatric patients 
  2. Endotracheal intubations in emergency and difficult airway situations, adult and pediatric
  3. Fiberoptic endotracheal intubation
  4. Percutaneous dilatational tracheostomy 
  5. Arterial cannula insertions for BP monitoring in high risk patients
Surgical ICU services
  • Postoperative surgical cases
  • Oxygen supplementation
  • Endotracheal intubation for patients in respiratory distress
  • Mechanical ventilation, Non-invasive ventilation
  • Peripheral venous cannulation , Central Venous catheter insertions, Haemodialysis catheter insertions
  • Emergency treatment for polytrauma cases
  • Surgical emergency cases are stabilized prior to surgery
  • Anaphylactic reactions treated
  • Cases of diabetic ketoacidosis are treated
  • Intercostal drainage for patients coming with pneumothorax and respiratory distress
  • Perioperative myocardial ischemia prevention and treatment
  • Critical obstetric cases like postpartum haemorrhage, peripartum cardiomyopathy, severe pre-eclampsia and eclampsia, ruptured ectopic pregnancy, pregnancies with heart disease
  • Any patient coming with life threatening conditions or severe pain is cared for.
Neurosurgical ICU services
  1. Patients with traumatic brain injuries, cervical spine injuries
  2. Neurosurgical  postoperative patients : decompressive craniotomy, cervical spine stabilization procedures, intracranial tumour excision, intracranial aneurysmal clipping procedures
  3. Critical Urological surgery patients
  4. Endotracheal intubation for patients in respiratory distress
Non-Operating Room Anaesthesia (NORA)
  • Procedural sedation and general anaesthesia are provided for patients scheduled for CT and MRI in the CT room and MRI suite in the Radiology block.
  • General anaesthesia for Medical electroconvulsive therapy in psychiatry ward
  • Outpatient Department:

    — Evening Bedside Pre-anaesthetic Evaluations done the day before surgery
