Emergency Medicine

Department of Emergency Medicine services were established on 15th July 2015 headed by Dr. Vijayalaxmi P B. It was created with the vision of providing holistic and quality Emergency Medical care to all those who seek it. Department of Emergency Medicine provides emergency care round-the-clock to patients with a variety of emergencies like road traffic accidents, poisoning and medical emergencies. It also provides teaching and training for the medical and paramedical students. It is manned by faculty, senior residents, junior residents, nursing staff and paramedics to provide efficient emergency care.

Teaching Program

UG Teaching

  • Regular ward teaching, including bedside clinics for under graduate students of 7th term.
  • Periodic conducting of internal assessment at the end of each posting for all under graduate students.
  • Exposure of undergraduate students to skill lab to train for various investigational and therapeutic procedures.
  • Exposure of undergraduate students to AETCOM modules & Pandemic modules as per NMC guidelines.

PG Teaching

  • Regular Post graduate teaching schedules i.e. subject seminar, journal club, clinical case presentation, group discussion & faculty lectures are conducted from Monday to Friday.
  • E- learning activity is done in the department on regular basis.
  • Monthly mortality meeting is held on last Saturday of the month attended by staff & PG’s.
  • PG dissertation is reviewed on periodic basis.
  • Guest lectures by various department staff done on every Saturday is attended by the staff & PG’s.
  • Regular bedside teaching for post graduates and teaching procedures like endo tracheal intubation, CVC insertion, ICD insertion, suturing, procedural sedation, arterial line insertion, applying splint etc, are taught round the clock.
  • Periodic internal assessment to PG’s, (theory and clinical ) is done as per NMC guidelines.

EMERGENCY AND TRAUMA CARE TECHNOLOGY: BSc students

  • Regular theory classes are conducted everyday for 2nd & 3rd year students.
  • Practical classes are conducted regularly for 2nd & 3rd year students.
  • Clinical teaching is done regularly for 1st, 2nd & 3rd year students.
  • Periodic assessment is done as per the university guidelines.
