Ophthalmology OPD has 3 separate spacious consultation rooms with all necessary ophthalmic equipment in each room. Retina clinic runs on a daily basis with 2 fulltime retina consultants. There are 2 separate well equipped rooms where visual acuity testing, refractive error measurement with auto refractometer and intraocular pressure measurement with non-contact tonometer are being done by well trained staff. There is a separate counsellor to help patients regarding health insurance such as most of the private insurances Arogya Bhagya, ECHS, ESI, Sampoorna Suraksha etc. OPD has a separate fully equipped minor OT where minor procedures like Lacrimal syringing, Chalazion excision, Cyst excision, Incision and drainage of abscesses, Subtenons, Sub-conjunctival, Supratarsal injection, Saline wash for chemical burns, foreign body removal, lid suturing, suture removal are being done. Round the clock service is rendered to retrieve eyes from the deceased.

Inpatient Services 

  • General Ward Admissions:
    • All Ocular diseases requiring admission and surgical patient’s admissions are done.
  • Surgeries:
    • All types of Cataract Surgeries with the latest intraocular lenses are done with precision (Includes SICS and Topical Phacoemulsification, Paediatric Cataract Surgeries, Phakic IOLs, Toric IOLs).
    • Surgical treatment for Glaucoma, Oculoplasty, Lacrimal Sac Surgeries, Squint and Orbit are done routinely.
    • Retina – Treatment options includes Laser treatment, Intravitreal Injections, all major and minor Vitreo Retinal Surgeries, ROP Screening and treatment is done routinely.
    • Other Laser treatment such as Nd Yag Capsulotomy and Nd Yag Peripheral Iridotomy.
    • Patients are benefited with an in-house spectacle dispensing optical shop.
    • Emergencies- Ocular Trauma related such as Globe Rupture Repair, Enucleation, Evisceration, Lid Suturing.
    • Other- Pterygium Excision with Conjunctival Autograft, Amniotic Membrane Grafts for Symblepharon Repair/Corneal Ulcer, Tarsorrhaphy.
  • Emergency:
    • All ocular emergencies.
  • Diagnostic Services:
    • Slit Lamp Examination for diagnosis of Anterior Segment Diseases , Slit Lamp Imaging to capture images of interesting cases.
    • Cataract IOL workup- Keratometry and A scan biometry.
    • Glaucoma workup includes Applanation Tonometry, Gonioscopy , Pachymetry, Automated visual fields, Optic Nerve Head- OCT, Central Corneal Thickness (CCT).
    • Cornea- Scraping of ulcer for staining and culture and sensitivity, Impression cytology for OSSN.
    • Dry eye workup includes Schirmer tests, Tear film breakup time, Fluorescein dye and Rose Bengal staining tests, Tear Meniscus.
    • Proptosis workup- Hertel’s Exophthalmometry.
    • Oculoplasty- Ptosis workup including MRD, LPS function, Ice Pack test, Phenylephrine test.
    • Lacrimal apparatus- Lacrimal sac syringing and probing for hard or soft stop.
    • Contact Lens – Trial lenses are available.
    • Squint Evaluation and Orthoptics.
    • Neuro-ophthalmology- Fundus Photography, Neurological visual field testing with Carl Zeiss Humphrey automated visual field analyser.
    • Retina unit caters to all retinal diseases such as Diabetic Retinopathy, ARMD, ROP Screening and many more. Fundus Photography, Fluorescein Angiography and Zeiss OCT, B- Scan are available for investigations.
    • Low Visual aids.
  • Special Services:
    • The department regularly conducts free eye check-up and free cataract surgeries under DBCS for the benefit of the underprivileged.
